In a dramatic and emotionally charged incident from Karnataka’s Hassan district, a bride stunned hundreds of guests by refusing to proceed with her wedding and walking out of the ceremony under police protection, accompanied by her boyfriend.
The bride, identified as Pallavi, and the groom, Venugopal G, a government school teacher, were set to be married at the Sri Adichunchanagiri Kalyana Mantapa, a prominent wedding venue in the region. Just as the groom was about to tie the mangalsutra, around Pallavi’s neck, she interrupted the ceremony and revealed that she was in love with someone else.
The revelation triggered immediate confusion and shock among attendees. A video circulating online shows Venugopal holding the mangalsutra, apparently trying to speak to Pallavi while relatives from both sides stood nearby on stage. In another clip, Pallavi is seen walking out of the wedding venue with her boyfriend, her face partially covered. The two then left the premises in a car, under the watch of local police who were called in to manage the situation and ensure safety.
Pallavi, reportedly a postgraduate, had kept her relationship with her boyfriend undisclosed until the last moment. The wedding was attended by numerous guests from both families, who were left startled by the unexpected announcement and the abrupt cancellation of the ceremony.
Authorities confirmed that the couple exited the venue without incident. While no legal complaints have been filed as of now, the incident has ignited widespread conversation across social media about personal choice, last-minute decisions, and the pressures surrounding arranged marriages.
