Bus Carrying 50 Passengers Meets with Serious Accident in Tamhini Ghat, Car Hit; Police Rush to Spot
What began as a company outing ended in a serious road accident on Friday afternoon in the Tamhini Ghat region of Raigad district. A private bus carrying nearly 50 passengers lost control while negotiating a sharp turn and crashed into a rocky hillside. During the incident, the bus also struck a car, pushing it across the road and into nearby bushes. The accident left 27 passengers injured, with 8 to 10 of them reported to be in critical condition.
According to official information, the bus had departed from Pune’s Bhosari area at around 11:30 a.m. The passengers were employees of Savan IB Auto Pvt. Ltd., traveling to Kashid Beach for a recreational trip. While passing through the winding ghat road in Mangaon taluka, near the well-known Garva Hotel spot, the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle at a sharp curve.
Following the loss of control, the bus veered off the road and slammed into the rocky mountain slope along the roadside. The impact was severe, injuring several passengers inside the bus and causing extensive damage to the vehicle. At the same moment, the bus collided with a car traveling nearby. Due to the force of the collision, the car was thrown across the road and came to rest after getting stuck in dense bushes.
The incident could have resulted in a far greater tragedy, as the bus narrowly avoided plunging into the valley below. However, the powerful impact still led to panic and distress among passengers, many of whom required immediate medical attention.
Upon receiving information about the accident, Mangaon police, local authorities, and rescue teams rushed to the scene. With assistance from local residents, injured passengers were safely evacuated from the damaged bus. Ambulances were quickly arranged to transport all the injured to the Mangaon Sub-District Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
Vehicular movement in the Tamhini Ghat area was temporarily disrupted while rescue operations and road clearance were carried out. Police officials have begun investigating the exact cause of the accident, including factors such as road conditions and driver control.
