Pune: Two Months After CM’s Inauguration, Mohammadwadi Residents Still Await Clean PMC Water Pune, July 14, 2026: Nearly two months after the Chief Minister inaugurated the Mohammed Wadi overhead water tank near Dorabjee Mall (The Royale Heritage Mall), NIBM Road Annexe, residents of Mohammadwadi continue to struggle for access to clean and reliable municipal water. Despite the inauguration raising hopes of ending years of dependence on private water tankers, many housing societies say the promised benefits have yet to materialize. Residents continue to rely on expensive tanker water as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has not been able to provide a consistent supply of clean drinking water. For residents of Ganga Florentina, the municipal water supply reached the society for the first time on 27 May, almost a decade after families first moved into the area. However, the relief was short-lived. On 13 July, the society received municipal water that was heavily contaminated with mud and suspended particles. According to the Managing Committee, the quality of the water was so poor that the society rejected the supply to prevent its underground tanks, pipelines, and filtration systems from being clogged with sludge. In a statement, the Managing Committee said, “Due to this heavy mud and contamination, the society rejected the supply to prevent our water tanks and filters from getting completely choked with sludge. The incoming water quality is currently highly inconsistent, which means we cannot accept the supply every other day either. We are closely monitoring the quality on the ground and will only take water when it is completely safe.” Residents have expressed disappointment that, despite significant investment in the new water infrastructure and the high-profile inauguration, they are still forced to depend on private water tankers for their daily needs. Citizens are urging the Pune Municipal Corporation to immediately identify and rectify the cause of the contamination, ensure proper flushing and testing of the distribution network, and provide a regular supply of clean and safe drinking water to Mohammadwadi residents. Until the water quality improves, societies in the area say they have no option but to continue relying on tanker water, adding to the financial burden on thousands of families.
