In a dramatic heist, a young man coerced the bank manager into handing over Rs 40 lakhs under the threat of suicide and murder.

In an unusual robbery incident in Shamli, Uttar Pradesh, a young man made off with Rs 40 lakhs from Axis Bank after threatening the manager with a suicide note and an alleged pistol. The incident unfolded on Tuesday afternoon at the bank’s main branch in Dhimanpura, Shamli, leaving the police in a state of high alert.

The youth entered the bank posing as a regular customer before heading straight to the manager, Naman Jain’s cabin. Once inside, he presented a suicide note and demanded Rs 40 lakhs, claiming that he was unable to pay off a home loan of Rs 38.5 lakhs and his house was about to be auctioned. The man threatened to either kill himself or the manager if his demands were not met.

Under pressure, the manager called the bank’s cashier, who handed over the cash to the accused. After receiving the money, the youth instructed the manager to walk him to the bank’s exit, a demand that the manager complied with. The youth then fled the scene with the cash.

The police were immediately informed of the robbery, which sent shockwaves through the local police department. Senior officers, including SP Shamli Ramsevak Gautam, arrived at the scene to investigate. During initial questioning, the bank manager claimed he did not recognize the accused and could not confirm whether the youth was armed, despite reports from another witness who claimed the accused had a pistol.

The police have launched an investigation into the case, and authorities are working to track down the suspect.
