On Monday, March 4 2024, The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) under the Sanchar Saathi Portal launched two new digital platforms namely ‘Chakshu’ and ‘Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP).’ 

With increasing Cyber fraud where fraudsters pretend to be Bank of government officials to get personal bank details and once details are shared huge amount is withdrawn from the victim’s bank amount going up to lakhs of rupees. 

These new portals will serve as channels for information sharing and a central point of contact for social media platforms, Telecom firms, banks, financial institutions, law enforcement agencies and identification documents issuing organizations. 

To defraud, such as KYC expiry or updates of bank accounts payment wallets, electricity or gas connections posing as a government official or relative to send money, or the Department of Telecommunications preventing all mobile numbers, Chaku’s facility enables citizens to report suspected fraud communication received over call via SMS or WhatsApp.

Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Telecom and IT minister said, “Chakshu will allow Indian Citizens to report fraudulent communication whether received on call or social media like WhatsApp. Once such information is received, the platform will trigger re-verification, and failing re-verification, the number will be disconnected.” 

Furthermore, S P Kochhar, Director-General, Cellular Operators AssociationOf India (COAI) said, “We compliment the Ministry of Communications and DoT on the launch of the Chakshu application today, which is a path-breaking initiative to help mitigate the increasing number of cyber frauds in today’s fast-growing digital era. We firmly believe that critical issues like Cyber Frauds require stakeholders to work together to truly make an impact on the ground.”
