Chandani Chowk to become congestion free soon : CM initiates action

After first-hand experience of the traffic issues faced by Pune residents, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has instructed action to be taken.

The chief minister has instructed senior officers of the district to visit Chandni Chowk and other nearby areas, demolish the old bridge and speed up the road lane work in the next 15 days.

Travellers stopped CM Shinde who was on the way to Satara and complained to him about the traffic congestion caused by the flyover work being carried out by the National Highway Authority at Chandni Chowk in Pune city.

 Accordingly, after visiting the Chandni Chowk area, a meeting was held at the office of the National Highways Authority of India to solve the problem of traffic congestion.  The Pune Municipal Corporation Commissioner Vikram Kumar, Pune district collector Dr Rajesh Deshmukh, Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Ankush Shinde, Additional Police Commissioner Sanjay Shinde, Deputy Commissioner of Police Rahul Srirame, NHAI Project Director Sanjay Kadam, Sub-divisional Officer Sanjay Asawle and others were present at the meeting.

Out of the nine lanes coming from the west, three connects Chandni chowk and so hampers the smooth flow of traffic. It was discussed in the meeting to expand the lanes.

The discussion points in the meeting were to expand the lanes.

It has been decided that 100 beat marshals, 50 each from the Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate, will be appointed for traffic control on the Pune-Bangalore National Highway.  The bridge at Chandni Chowk will be demolished in 15 days using controlled blasting method.  Post demolition of the old structure, there will be an attempt to start a new lane quickly.

Traffic coming to Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad areas will be controlled at the borders between 8 am and 11 am, and 6pm and 9 pm till September 30.
