A couple from Kapu village in Chhattisgarh has garnered attention for their distinctive approach to marriage. Rather than adhering to the customary rituals of their community, they chose to solemnize their union by pledging their commitment to the Indian Constitution.

The couple chose to forgo conventional ceremonies such as “Sath pheras” and “Band Baaja” during their wedding on December 18.

This decision garnered admiration from many, including members of their community. The parents of the couple, along with members of the community, conveyed their happiness and offered their heartfelt blessings.

This wedding represents a notable departure from the customary practices typically observed in the region, underscoring the increasing embrace of contemporary perspectives on marriage and social values in Chhattisgarh.

The couple, Pratima Lahre and Eman Lahre chose to forgo traditional wedding rituals. They opted not to include the “mangal sutra” and “sindoor” ceremonies in their celebration.

They pledged their commitment in the presence of a portrait of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, who is recognized as the architect of the Indian Constitution.

“This type of marriage saves on extravagant expenses. We decided to tie the knot with our families’ consent, avoiding unnecessary expenditure,” says the proud couple.

The wedding has sparked considerable conversation throughout the region. Numerous attendees expressed admiration for the event, describing it as a “significant perspective on marriage” and suggesting that it serves as a source of inspiration for future ceremonies.

The event held on December 18 marked the birth anniversary of Guru Ghasidas, the founder of Satnam Dharma. It served as a modest yet meaningful affirmation of dedication to equality, drawing inspiration from the essence of this occasion.
