Chinchwad By-polls : Vote counting took place at Shankar Gawade Kamgar Bhavan in Thergaon

Chinchwad: The counting of votes for the Chinchwad Assembly by-elections took place on March 2, 2023, at Shankar Anna Gawade Kamgar Bhavan in Thergaon, starting at 8 am. 

The Election Returning Officer, Sachin Dhole, informed that a total of 37 rounds of counting, with 15 tables, including 14 tables for counting votes and one table for postal ballots. The election department had completed all necessary preparations for the counting, and 18 supervisors, 18 assistants, and 18 micro inspectors were appointed for the process.

The counting of postal ballots began first, followed by the first round at 14 tables. The counting of votes took place in a phased manner, with 37 rounds in total. After the last round, the VVPATs (Voter Verified Paper Audit Trails) were randomly drawn, and the lots from five VVPATs were counted. The results of each round were announced through a loudspeaker from Shankar Anna Gawde Kamgar Bhavan, and candidates can also saw the statistics of the votes casted by rounds through the Election Commission of India’s website.

The Chinchwad Assembly Constituency had 510 polling stations, and there were 28 candidates in the fray. The number of voters were 2,87,479, and postal voting was also be included. 

Therefore, it is expected to take at least 14 hours to declare the final result of the Chinchwad assembly elections, considering all the processes.

To ensure the safety and security of the counting process, a curfew order has been imposed in the vicinity of Shankar Anna Gawde Kamgar Bhavan. Adequate police security were deployed at the polling station, and only those with identity cards issued by the Election Commission were  allowed within 100 meters of the building. The road leading from Tapkir Chowk to Thergaon Hospital was closed for public traffic on the counting day until the final results were announced.

The Collector and District Election Officer, Dr. Rajesh Deshmukh, had reviewed the facilities provided at the counting center and instructed the concerned officials regarding the planning of the counting process. He had also informed them about the demonstration operation of the Election Commission’s ETPBS (Electronically Transmitted Postal Ballot System for Public Voters) system. Deshmukh had advised the police administration to take all necessary precautions in terms of law and order during the counting process.
