Ever since Krishna Prakash, the newly appointed Police Commissioner of Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissionerate he has been in the news for novel ideas. He insists on citizens participation in making city crime free. He announced that citizens taking part in such initiatives will get firearms licenses for safety reasons.

The idea behind handing over licenses to the citizens stepping ahead voluntarily for procuring firearms is to control the rate of crime in the city. In certain areas of the city, the thefts are on the rise, and hence to tackle the same, citizens from such specific areas would be given license to procure firearms.
Talking to Pune Pulse, he said, “The licenses for long range rifles would be given to the citizens, and no pistols, as rifles are good for the security and the patrolling purpose. One may not be allowed to flaunt the firearm in public, or without purpose; and thus, volunteers must have to strictly follow the rules and guidelines prescribed by us.”

He further said, “The volunteers who would be given license will have to patrol the area. A total of seven people would be selected as volunteers from one area, just how we are initiating ‘Mohalla Suraksha Dal’ and ‘Gram Suraksha Dal’, and one firearm, along with license, will be distributed to a particular person in the group.”

On being asked if there is misuse of the firearm and the license, he commented, “We would be giving license only after studying their background; once we find it clean and eligible enough to patrol the area, following our guidelines and rules, we will sanction them the license. Our control room, too, will monitor them and their patrolling. A Whatsapp group will be formed of the volunteers from the area, under the supervision of the certain Police station.”
