CM Fadnavis Lauds Pune Traders For Boycotting Turkish Apples And Dry Fruits Over Turkey's Pro-Pakistan Stance
Pune, May 15, 2025: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday praised Pune’s fruit traders for putting the nation first by boycotting Turkish apples and dry fruits in response to Turkey’s support for Pakistan following India’s anti-terror operations in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
The decision by traders at the APMC fruit market in Pune to halt imports from Turkey is expected to cause a significant disruption in the local market, as Turkish apples alone usually account for a seasonal turnover of ₹1,000 to ₹1,200 crore.
“I applaud all the traders who have chosen not to import products from Turkey. This kind of ‘nation first’ sentiment must guide our actions. Those supporting terrorism, directly or indirectly, must be taught a lesson,” said Fadnavis. He also reassured traders that they need not fear any threats reportedly received from across the border, stating, “India is capable of handling any threats decisively.”
Navin Goyal, Committee Member, The Pune Spice and Dry Fruits Association confirmed that Turkish imports of apricots and hazelnuts have also been stopped. He cited Turkey’s provision of drones to Pakistan during recent hostilities as a key reason.
“We no longer wish to trade with Turkey. Despite India extending help in the past, Turkey chose to back Pakistan. The boycott will impact their economy heavily—India is one of their largest consumers,” Goyal said. He claimed that Turkey earns over ₹10,000 crore annually from trade with India, which now stands at risk.
The decision by Pune traders is being hailed as a symbolic yet powerful move in economic resistance against nations seen as supporting terrorism, aligning both trade and national sentiment.
