MUMBAI: Chief minister Eknath Shinde has said that the Mumbai Coastal Road is expected to be completed by May 2024.

He asserted that the cost of the project didn’t go up due to delays, but because of changes to alignment after demands by Worli fishermen.

CM Shinde said work on the Coastal Road was being carried out at full speed and it will be open by May 31, 2024.

In his response to the legislative council in writing, the Chief Minister did not address the collection of tolls on the Coastal Road. He stated,

“The Coastal Road Project commenced in October 2018. The project faced delays due to various court orders, the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, and protests by the Koli fishermen. Despite the delays, there has been no additional increase in the project cost.”

“Due to the delay, the contract period of the general consultant has increased and his fees have been increased due to additional tasks, such as scrutinizing the plans of the proposed 120-meter waterway, supervision of the integrated centralized control centre and consultancy for the beautification work…The Coastal Road at Worli will be connected to the Bandra Worli Sea Link through a bridge,” he mentioned in his reply.
