Retired Colonel Suresh Patil, a seasoned veteran, has announced his candidacy for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from the Pune constituency. Taking a bold stance against the status quo, Patil pledges to address the pressing issues of water scarcity and environmental degradation plaguing the region.

Expressing his concerns, Patil criticized mainstream political parties for their lack of concrete plans to tackle these vital issues. “The candidates of established political parties contesting the Pune seat do not have any roadmap to resolve important public concerns of environment and water. They are not even making statements about it, and they lack knowledge of the environment,” he asserted.

With over three decades of experience in water and environmental management in Pune, Patil has been actively involved through the Sainik Samaj Party’s ‘Green Thumb’ organization. Emphasizing the need for informed governance, he stressed the necessity for elected representatives to receive training on water and environmental issues.

“The voters will have to elect a candidate irrespective of the political party and work in the field of water and environment to get a change in their life. I will contact voters with water and environmental concerns,” Patil declared, underlining his commitment to engage directly with constituents on these critical matters.

As the political landscape unfolds, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated former mayor Murlidhar Mohol, while the Congress has chosen Ranvinrra Dhangker, a recent victor in the Kasba bypolls. Additionally, Vasant More, formerly of the BJP, now represents the Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) in the fray for the Pune seat.

The upcoming Lok Sabha polls on May 13 will witness an intriguing contest, with Patil’s independent candidacy injecting a fresh perspective into the discourse, promising proactive measures to alleviate Pune’s water crisis and environmental challenges.
