Anurag Yadav, the NEET candidate recently apprehended in connection with irregularities in the exam results, has confessed that the leaked question paper provided to him by his uncle matched the actual NEET exam paper.
According to the confession in letter accessed by a news agency, 22-year-old Yadav acknowledged receiving the leaked NEET question paper along with answers from his uncle, Sikandar Prasad Yadavendu, an engineer associated with Bihar’s Danapur Town Council. Yadav stated that upon receiving the actual exam paper during the NEET examination, he noticed a direct match with the leaked paper his uncle had provided earlier. The confession letter was also authenticated with Yadav’s signature.
The arrest came as part of a larger investigation, which also saw four men from Bihar detained for allegedly accessing the exam paper a day before the test.
The unfolding scandal further deepened when documents accessed by news agency implicated a ‘Mantri Ji’ who allegedly facilitated accommodation for Yadav, his mother, and other associates in a government bungalow in Patna, underscoring the scale of alleged irregularities.
In response to the controversy, the Union Education Ministry has swiftly intervened, seeking a comprehensive report from Bihar Police’s Economic Offences Unit concerning the NEET exam conduct in Patna. The Ministry spokesperson emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of examinations and safeguarding the interests of students, pledging stringent action against any individuals or entities found culpable in the investigation.
The NEET UG examination, conducted on May 5 across 4,750 centres with approximately 24 lakh candidates, has been marred by allegations of question paper leaks and other irregularities in several states, triggering protests and legal challenges in various courts including the Supreme Court.
While the results were originally scheduled for announcement on June 14, they were expedited to June 4, purportedly due to the early completion of answer sheet evaluations.
