Five armed men storm Bank of Maharashtra branch in Singrauli, fire shots and flee after swift heist

A shocking daylight robbery in Madhya Pradesh’s Singrauli district has raised serious concerns over bank security, after five armed men stormed a Bank of Maharashtra branch and looted cash and valuables within minutes.

The incident took place on Friday afternoon in the Baidhan area, when the bank was crowded with customers. According to reports, the robbers executed the entire operation in just 15–20 minutes, escaping with around Rs 35 lakh in cash along with gold and silver jewellery.

The attack began when two men entered the bank posing as customers. Moments later, three more accomplices joined them, all armed with weapons. They quickly took control of the premises, holding staff and customers at gunpoint.

Eyewitness accounts suggest panic spread inside the branch as the robbers threatened everyone and even fired a shot to create fear. When the branch manager resisted, he was brutally assaulted with the butt of a gun and forced to hand over keys to cash reserves and lockers.

The gang targeted both the cash counter and lockers containing pledged gold. In some accounts, the total loot—including gold—has been estimated at several crores, indicating the scale of the operation may be even larger than initially reported.

After collecting the cash and valuables, the accused attempted to damage CCTV systems and fled the scene on a two-wheeler towards nearby forest areas.

Police response was swift but came after the robbers had already escaped. Senior officials reached the spot, sealed district borders, and launched a large-scale manhunt. CCTV footage is now being analysed, and special teams have been deployed to track down the accused.

The incident has once again highlighted vulnerabilities in bank security, especially during peak hours, and the audacity with which such crimes are being carried out in broad daylight.
