Deccan Police Nab Notorious Mobile Snatcher, Recover Stolen Phones Across Pune
Pune, January 17, 2025: In a significant breakthrough, the Deccan Police have apprehended Habib Abalu Irani (24), a habitual offender accused of snatching mobile phones at night in the Deccan, Baner, and Yerwada areas. Acting on secret information and surveillance, the police detained Irani, recovering four stolen mobile phones linked to multiple cases.
The accused, a resident of Patil Estate near Pune-Mumbai Road and Rashid Compound in Mumbra, Thane, confessed to the crimes during interrogation. The recovered mobiles were connected to cases registered under Deccan Police Station, Baner Police Station involving a phone snatched from a cab passenger at Virbhadra nagar.
Habib Abalu Irani is a seasoned criminal with previous cases filed at Yavat, Lohmarg, and Hadapsar police stations. Known for targeting unsuspecting citizens at night, he primarily operated from a two-wheeler, grabbing phones from pedestrians or individuals standing by the roadside.
The arrest was made under the supervision of senior officers: ACP Pravin Patil, West Regional Division, DCP Sandeep Singh Gill, Circle 1 and Sr. PI Sainath Thombre, Vishrambaug Division.
The investigation team included PI (Crime) Girisha Nimbalkar, Police Sub-Inspectors Mahesh Bhosale, Ajay Bhosale, Dattatray Sawant, and a team of constables and assistants.
