New Delhi, January 20, 2025: The Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi will temporarily halt operations for 145 minutes daily, from 10:20 AM to 12:45 PM, until January 26 as part of security arrangements for Republic Day celebrations. The closure aligns with preparations for the Republic Day parade, including rehearsals, drills, and the flypast.
A Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) issued earlier alerted airlines and passengers to the airspace restrictions. According to aviation analytics firm Cirium, the suspension is set to impact 1,336 flights over eight days, including 665 departures and 671 arrivals.
Impact on Flights
Daily flight disruptions are estimated as follows:
- January 19: 85 departures, 85 arrivals
- January 20: 85 departures, 84 arrivals
- January 21: 79 departures, 81 arrivals (lowest impact day)
- Remaining days: 81–84 departures and 82–87 arrivals

International routes to Toronto, Washington, Tashkent, Kathmandu, and Colombo are among those expected to face disruptions. The airspace closure is essential to secure the flypast and ensure the safety of dignitaries attending the celebrations.
