Pune News: Seven Arrested by Kondhwa Police For Assault And Extortion In Bopdev Ghat
Pune, January 20, 2025: In a major operation, Kondhwa Police arrested seven individuals involved in a violent assault and extortion case in the Bopdev Ghat area near Trinity College. The accused, reportedly attempting to assert their criminal dominance in the locality, were apprehended with four sharp weapons and other incriminating items.
The incident unfolded on January 16, 2025, when a dispute escalated on a public road near Trinity College. The victim, 19-year-old Vishwajeet Babaji Hulwale, sustained serious injuries from a sword attack during the altercation. Hulwale promptly filed a complaint at Kondhwa Police Station, leading to a case registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, including armed assault and extortion.
Swift Police Action
Acting on intelligence, a police team led by Senior Inspector Vinay Patankar and supported by Inspectors Abdul Rauf Shaikh and Suraj Bendre, raided a flat in Yeolewadi’s Singapore Homes. The following individuals were arrested during the operation: Bhavesh Balasaheb Kunjeer, 23, resident of Saswad, Pune, Atharv Kailas Pawar, 21, resident of Ghorpadi, Pune, Suraj Sachin Raut, 21, resident of Saswad, Pune, Aryan Vilas Pawar, 18, resident of Ghorpadi, Pune, Saurabh Pradeep Londhe, 18, resident of Dhanakawdi, Pune, Raj Digambar Ronge, 19, resident of Yeolewadi, Pune and Varun Baban Bhosale, 21, resident of Jejuri, Pune.
During questioning, the suspects confessed to the crime. Weapons and vehicles worth ₹3.8 lakh were seized during the operation.
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner Ranjankumar Sharma, Assistant Commissioner Manoj Patil, and Senior Inspector Vinay Patankar. Police authorities have assured residents of strict measures to curb criminal activities in the area. Investigations are ongoing to identify any additional accomplices involved in the case.
