Three residents of Viveknagar area in Akurdi were admitted to a private hospital with dengue-like symptoms. These patients are currently suspected to have dengue, and their condition is stable. Their dengue test results are still pending.
The medical department conducted entomological surveillance in the resident society and neighboring societies. Dengue-causing mosquito larvae were found at a nearby construction site. Measures like spraying insecticides and thermal fogging were carried out to eliminate mosquito breeding sites. Additionally, a fine of Rs. 10,000 was imposed on the construction site.
Symptoms of dengue include:
– High fever, severe headache, muscle and joint pain
– Vomiting, pain behind the eyes
– Rash, weakness, loss of appetite, dry mouth
– Bleeding under the skin, nosebleeds, blood in vomit, blood-stained or dark-colored stools, abdominal pain, low blood pressure, cold extremities
– In severe cases, patients may experience a decrease in blood plasma volume, leading to dengue shock syndrome, which has a high mortality rate.
Dengue spreads through mosquito bites. To prevent the breeding of mosquitoes, ensure that water does not accumulate in and around your house. Proper disposal of garbage and waste is also essential. Personal precautions should be taken to avoid mosquito bites.
