Pune: Eight trees were chopped mercilessly and covertly for metro work in the Sakal Nagar area in Aundh. As per information, the Pune Municipal Corporation has granted permission for this.

Speaking to Pune Pulse, Ravindra Kamble, Horticulture Mistry, PMC said, “Permission has been given by the PMC to Metro for chopping the trees in Sakal Nagar in Aundh. These trees were proving to be an obstacle in the construction of the Metro Station nearby.”

As per further information, on Monday, October 23, eight trees, which included six 35-year-old trees, were chopped off in the Sakal Nagar area of Aundh in the wee hours. The area was severely damaged with broken branches lying along the fence and its nearby surroundings. The citizens were agitated by this tree-cutting incident.

PMC had decided to impose a fine on the Metro for frequent damage to utility lines during its works. Over 50,000 residents were affected due to the damage caused to the pipeline as the water supply was interrupted due to negligence.
