On Sunday, the film industry bid farewell to renowned director Sangeeth Sivan, who passed away at the age of 61. Sivan, known for his diverse portfolio across various film industries, breathed his last at a private hospital in Mumbai, leaving behind a legacy cherished by many colleagues and associates.

Actor Riteish Deshmukh, who worked with Sivan in movies like ‘Apna Sapna Money, Money’ and ‘Kya Kool Hai Hum’, expressed his grief on Twitter, remembering the veteran filmmaker as a guiding light in his career. 

Similarly, Tusshar Kapoor, who collaborated with Sivan in the hit franchise ‘Kya Kool Hain Hum’, paid tribute to him, reminiscing about their professional journey together.

The cause of Sivan’s death is yet to be officially confirmed, although reports suggest complications from an infection. According to his brother, choreographer Santosh Sivan, Sangeeth Sivan was admitted to the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital and passed away following a cardiac arrest. His last rites took place on Thursday at the Oshiwara cemetery.

Beginning his career as an executive producer in Aamir Khan’s debut film ‘Raakh’ (1989), Sangeeth Sivan soon ventured into directing, achieving success with his Malayalam debut ‘Vyooham’ and the fantasy action film ‘Yodha’ (1992), starring Mohanlal. He continued to make waves in both Mollywood and Bollywood, delivering hits like ‘Kyaa Kool Hai Hum’, ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana 2’, and ‘Click’. In 2019, he made his mark in the digital space with the psychological web series ‘Bhram’.

Sangeeth Sivan leaves behind a grieving industry and a loving family, survived by his wife Jayashree and two children, Sajana and Shanthanu. His contributions to cinema will be remembered fondly by fans and colleagues alike.
