Diwali Gift Dispute: Workers Throw Soan Papdi Boxes at Factory Gate in Protest
Employees in Haryana express anger over ‘insufficient’ Diwali gifts; video of Soan Papdi packets flung at factory gate goes viral.
In the festive season of Diwali, when employees across the country eagerly await gifts from their companies, a surprising incident from Haryana has sparked debate on social media. Workers from a factory in the Ganaur area of Sonipat district reportedly expressed strong dissatisfaction after receiving boxes of Soan Papdi as their Diwali gift.
The incident, captured on video and now widely shared online, shows angry workers throwing the gift boxes outside the factory gate. According to reports, the employees felt insulted, claiming the token gift was disrespectful, especially when some companies in India are gifting luxury cars worth crores to their staff.
Soan Papdi is often joked about as a sweet that keeps getting passed from one household to another during festivals. The workers claimed that giving such a gift showed the management’s lack of respect for their efforts and emotions during Diwali.
Although the name of the factory and company has not yet been disclosed, the video has triggered widespread reactions. In one clip, a worker can be seen throwing a box past the factory gate in frustration. Many viewers were shocked at the visuals, questioning whether the spirit of gifting during festivals has turned into a mere formality devoid of genuine appreciation.

While some social media users supported the employees, saying that companies should value their workers’ emotions and contributions, others felt the reaction was exaggerated, arguing that a gift—no matter how small—should be accepted with gratitude. However, the majority of comments seemed to sympathise with the workers, pointing out growing dissatisfaction among industrial labourers.
So far, the factory management has not issued any official statement. The incident has, however, opened up broader conversations about employee morale, respect, and corporate responsibility during festive occasions. Many have suggested that companies should rethink their policies to prevent such resentment in the future.
