Diwali Travelers Duped: Private Agents, Bus Operators In Pune Cash In On Festive Rush
With Diwali just around the corner, private agents and bus operators are taking advantage of the festive rush, fleecing travelers with exorbitant fares and illegal ticket sales.
Commuters planning to travel from Pune by bus and train are facing a harrowing time, with private agents selling train tickets illegally and private bus operators demanding outrageous fares.
One such victim, Rutuja Shirode, shared his ordeal, “I was charged ₹3,500 per ticket for a journey from Pune to Nagpur. I had to cancel my plans as it was beyond my budget.”
Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has taken cognizance of the issue, issuing a stern warning to tourist bus operators. RTO squads have launched a special drive to monitor bus operations, uncovering numerous violations.
“Our investigation revealed that operators are flouting norms, overcharging passengers, and exceeding bus capacity,” said RTO officials while speaking with media.
