Pune RTO To Take Strict Action Against Private Travel Operators Charging Excess Fares During Diwali

In light of the Diwali festival, strict action will be taken against private travel operators who charge extra fares. The Regional Transport Office (RTO) has issued a notice stating that any operator found charging additional fares will face penalties. According to the regulations, private travel operators are permitted to charge one and a half times the standard State Transport (ST) fare, but any amount exceeding this will result in punitive measures and confiscation. To enforce this, special teams have been appointed by the Pune RTO.

Passengers are encouraged to report any instances of excessive fare charges by sending ticket details and vehicle numbers, along with photos, to the RTO’s WhatsApp number at 8275330101.

Many people travel to their hometowns during Diwali. However, this year’s elections have also created a financial burden, as local political figures typically cover transportation costs during the election period. As a result, many individuals may prefer to travel during the election period rather than during Diwali, leading to uncertainty about passenger numbers this festival season.

According to Kiran Desai, Chairman of the Pune Bus and Car Association, they only charge the regulated fares and do not impose additional charges.

1. Pune-Nagpur (AC Shivneri)

Swapnil Bhosale, the Deputy Regional Transport Officer of Pune, stated, “We receive complaints regarding excessive fares during Diwali. In response, special teams have been assigned to monitor this issue. While operators are allowed to charge one and a half times the ST fares, any additional charges will lead to strict action against the vehicles involved. Passengers are advised to report such incidents to the RTO’s WhatsApp number.”
