Drone Banned In Pune Rural Until June 3 Amid Security Alert

Drone Usage Restricted In Pune Rural Areas; Prior Police Permission Now Mandatory
Pune, May 16, 2025: In light of heightened national security concerns following recent military activity along the border, the Pune Rural Police have issued a temporary ban on all drone and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) operations within their jurisdiction until June 3, 2025.
According to an official press note from the office of the Superintendent of Police, Pankaj Deshmukh, Pune Rural, the ban comes in the wake of intensified drone activity allegedly used by Pakistan for reconnaissance and potential terror-related activities after Indian forces destroyed multiple terror camps post a ceasefire breach on May 10, 2025.
Invoking powers under Section 10(2) read with Section 33(1)(u) of the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951, Pune Rural SP has prohibited the use of drones, remote-controlled microlight aircraft, paragliders, paramotors, hang gliders, hot air balloons, and other similar aerial objects in the region. The order is effective from May 16 to June 3, 2025.
Authorities have emphasized that strict legal action will be taken against any individual found violating this order. Citizens are urged to comply fully with the directive and to report any unauthorized drone activity immediately to the Main Control Room at 020-25657171 or the nearest police station helpline.
The move aims to prevent the misuse of aerial surveillance tools that could aid terrorist operations and to ensure public safety during a sensitive security period.
