e-Aadhaar App Launch in India: Citizens to Soon Update Aadhaar Details Instantly via Mobile
UIDAI’s upcoming app to simplify Aadhaar updates with AI-based verification and enhanced data security
The Government of India is gearing up to launch the e-Aadhaar app, a new initiative by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) aimed at making Aadhaar updates faster, safer, and entirely digital. Expected to roll out by the end of 2025 on both Android and iOS platforms, the app will allow users to update their Aadhaar details including address, phone number, and date of birth, directly from their smartphones.
At present, any demographic change to Aadhaar requires visiting an Aadhaar Seva Kendra and submitting physical documents. The new e-Aadhaar app will eliminate this step by offering end-to-end digital updates. Users will be able to modify their details in just a few steps—authenticate through an OTP, upload valid documents, and receive verification updates within three to five days.
To maintain robust data security, UIDAI plans to integrate Artificial Intelligence and facial recognition technology into the app, ensuring that only legitimate users can access and modify their information. The system will automatically validate uploaded documents like passports, driving licences, and birth certificates against verified government databases.
While demographic updates will be possible entirely online, biometric updates such as fingerprints or iris scans will still require physical verification at Aadhaar centres. Officials said this hybrid model balances convenience with data integrity.
The e-Aadhaar app is expected to reduce travel and paperwork, helping citizens avoid long queues and delays. By merging AI, security, and accessibility, the government aims to make Aadhaar updates faster, safer, and more transparent, reinforcing India’s growing digital identity ecosystem alongside platforms like DigiLocker and UMANG.
