Exciting News: Maharashtra's 'This' District will become home to India's third biggest film city
In a significant development for the Indian film industry, Maharashtra is poised to establish its third-largest film city in the Nagpur district. The announcement, made by Ashish Shelar, Minister for Information Technology of Maharashtra highlights plans for a film city near Ramtek, which is expected to enhance film production in the Vidarbha region. The new film city will be constructed on 128 acres of land earmarked for this purpose, with a proposal to transfer the land to be presented to the district collector within 15 days.
This ambitious project aims to replicate the success of Mumbai’s Film City and Hyderabad’s Ramoji Film City, making it the first film city in Vidarbha and the second in Maharashtra. Located in Navargaon within the Ramtek taluka of Nagpur, the film city will not only boost local filmmaking but also create numerous job opportunities in the region. A consultant will be appointed to oversee the establishment and ensure its success, marking a new chapter for the film industry in Maharashtra.
The Ramtek area is truly a gem, surrounded by natural beauty with its lush forests and serene lakes. It is not only scenic but also rich in historical and mythological significance, with legends suggesting that Lord Rama spent time here during his exile.
Tourists are drawn to several attractions in Ramtek, including the Ramtek Fort, Ram Temple, Totladoh and Pench Dam, Nagardhan Fort, and the Pench Jungle. This picturesque location offers a convenient alternative for artists from central India, reducing the need to travel all the way to Mumbai. Additionally, the area is well-equipped with facilities for adventure sports, making it an ideal choice for the new film city in Maharashtra.
Interestingly, Chikhaldara also stands out as a popular filming destination, leading many public representatives to advocate for the establishment of a film city there. Often referred to as the paradise of Vidarbha, Chikhaldara’s appeal adds to the ongoing discussions about expanding film production facilities in the region.
