Pune: Residents living near Prakriti and Comfort Zone societies are raising serious concerns over the long-standing issue of garbage dumping behind their premises. Despite submitting a petition to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Commissioner in September 2024, urging the relocation of the dumping site to a non-residential area, no action has been taken so far.

The foul smell from the site has made everyday life difficult for residents, and the situation worsens during the monsoon, creating unbearable living conditions. The stagnant water around the dump has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes, increasing the risk of vector-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria.

Residents expressed disappointment over the PMC’s inaction despite their collective appeal. The petition, signed by numerous locals, highlighted the urgent need to shift the dumping site to protect public health and improve the neighborhood’s hygiene.

A local resident told Pune Pulse that the plot seems to be under the ownership of the civic body. There are vehicles bringing garbage as well as construction debris from around the area and dumping it.

They have now made a fresh appeal to the concerned department, urging swift action to resolve the issue. The residents hope that the authorities will prioritize their health and safety by taking necessary measures without further delay.
