The work finished at three stops Kasba Peth, Mandai, and Swargate is proving to be a hurdle for the authorities who want to extend the underground Metro line up to Swargate before Ganeshotsav. A Maha Metro official mentioned that more than 90% of the construction work on the Civil Court to Swargate underground Metro section has been completed. They also stated that the construction at Kasba Peth, Mandai, and Swargate stations is at an advanced stage.

The completion of work at Kasba Peth, Mandai, and Swargate stations is posing a challenge to the authorities who want to extend the underground Metro’s route to Swargate before Ganeshotsav. An official from Maha Metro mentioned that most of the work on the Civil Court to Swargate underground Metro stretch is done, with the stations at Kasba Peth, Mandai, and Swargate in advanced stages of completion. They are hopeful to finish the remaining tasks in the next couple of months, allowing for CMRS inspections. Additionally, the Yerawada and Khadki stations on the elevated route are also nearing completion.

Extending the Metro services to Swargate is crucial as it will link all major public transport hubs in the city, such as MSRTC bus terminuses, railway stations, and PMPML bus terminuses, through the Metro. If the Metro services are operational till Swargate before Ganeshotsav, it will benefit many pandal hoppers as well. Ganeshotsav usually ends around mid-September, and the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) expects the announcement of the state assembly elections shortly after that.

Extending the Metro services to Swargate before the election code is enforced would be incredibly advantageous for the commuters. The Kasba Peth underground Metro station is situated close to Sattoti police chowky, benefiting residents in areas like Somwar Peth, Kamala Nehru hospital area, and Shaniwarwada. Similarly, the Mandai station is positioned beneath the historic Mandai building structure, while the Swargate station is aligned with Jedhe chowk.

Shantanu Gupta’s view is echoed by many regular commuters who emphasize the importance of the Metro administration adhering to the deadlines and completing all works within the next couple of months. Meeting the stipulated timeframe will undoubtedly alleviate the hardships faced by commuters. It’s crucial for the authorities to prioritize timely completion to ensure a smoother commuting experience for everyone.
