FDA Cracks Down On Illegal And Misleading Cosmetic Products; ₹34.61 Lakh Stock Seized
Mumbai, June 16, 2026: Following its ongoing crackdown on illegal drugs, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Maharashtra, has now intensified action against misbranded and unauthorized cosmetic products across the state. In a series of raids conducted at various locations, the department seized and prohibited cosmetic products, raw materials, and manufacturing equipment worth a total of ₹34.61 lakh.
The statewide enforcement drive targeted establishments involved in the manufacture, storage, and sale of cosmetics that allegedly violated statutory labeling requirements, carried misleading claims, or were operating without valid licenses.
Misbranded Cosmetics Worth ₹29.45 Lakh Prohibited in Karad
Acting on confidential information, FDA officials conducted an inspection on June 12, 2026, at M/s Rajlaxmi Telecommunication in Karad, Satara district. During the inspection, various cosmetic products stored for sale were examined.
Authorities found that while several products displayed batch numbers and manufacturing dates on their outer cartons, the inner bottles lacked essential details such as batch numbers, manufacturing dates, and manufacturer information. In some cases, products carried manufacturing license numbers but did not disclose the identity of the manufacturer.
The products were therefore prima facie classified as misbranded cosmetics. Cosmetic stock valued at approximately ₹29,45,375 was prohibited, and further investigation is underway to initiate legal action.
Cosmetics with Misleading Claims Seized in Crawford Market
On June 13, 2026, FDA officials inspected M/s Beauty Centre in Crawford Market, Mumbai, where several cosmetic products were found to be lacking mandatory statutory details.
The products included Daily Divine Aromatherapy Essential Oil Blend Natural Breast Enlarge, Daily Divine Aromatherapy Essential Oil Blend Natural Butt Enhancement, Daily Divine Aromatherapy Essential Oil Blend Natural Intense Fat Burner, Flaura Essential Heritage Blend Berry Rich, Flaura Essential Heritage Blend Healing Touch, and Flaura Essential Heritage Blend Pure Glow.
As the products lacked adequate batch details, license information, manufacturer particulars, and carried misleading claims, cosmetic stock worth ₹1,20,152 was seized.
Unauthorized Manufacturing Unit Busted in Kandivali
In another operation based on confidential inputs, FDA officials inspected M/s Radiant Creations in Kandivali (West), Mumbai, on June 13, 2026.
The inspection revealed that drugs and cosmetics were allegedly being manufactured and stored for sale without the required licenses. Officials also discovered raw materials and machinery used in the production process at the premises.
Drugs, cosmetics, raw materials, and manufacturing equipment collectively valued at ₹3,96,830 were seized. Legal proceedings have been initiated under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, and the rules framed thereunder.
Zero Tolerance Policy Against Violations
“FDA Maharashtra is following a zero-tolerance policy against any malpractice affecting public health. Strict action will continue against the manufacture, storage, or sale of misleading, substandard, or unauthorized products. Protecting consumer health and ensuring the availability of safe products remain our foremost priorities,” said Tukaram Mundhe, Commissioner, Food and Drug Administration, Maharashtra.
The FDA stated that stringent enforcement actions against violators will continue across the state to safeguard consumer interests and public health.
