Over 25,000 shop owners from Pune city have decided to ring bells in protest to the unruly restrictions imposed by the administration.

Fatehchand N Ranka, President, Suryakant Pathak, Vice President and Mahendra Pitalia, Secretary addressed the meeting today.  All the shop owners will participate in the agitation ‘Ghanta Naad Aaandolan’ on August 3, between 12 pm and 12:15 pm to bring the attention of the administration of the Government and the local administration for their demand of changing the timings of keeping the non essential shops open.

Shop owners will ring the bells at various places on this day. The association feels that since the Covid19 cases in Pune city are in control for a long time the timings can now be changed. Also, cases in the rural part of the Pune district should not be the reason of curbs in the Pune city now. In letter written to the Chief Minister of State, Guardian Minister of the Pune District, Divisional Commissioner, District Collector, Municipal Commissioner of PMC and the Commissioner of Police dated 30-06-2021 the Federation of Trade Associations of Pune had demanded following :

Either, all the shops (excluding the non essential) should be allowed to function from 11 am to 8 pm for the current system of 5 days or should be allowed to function on all seven days between 11 am and 7 pm.
Current timings are not suitable for shopping so not only the shop owners but the customers are also facing problems. So above changes in timings are required to be allowed.
In case the required changes in timings of keeping the shops open are not considered by the concerned authorities then from August 4 all the shop owners will keep their shops open till 7 pm and would be ready to face the consequences.

All these decisions were taken unanimously in the meeting of the office bearers of the federation held on July 31.
Shops and many business establishments have remained closed for a very long in the last 16-18 months, especially during the festival seasons due to which there have losses to the tune of Rs.75000/- Cr.
Shop owners, traders and their employees are heavily suffering due to the financial losses so now they should be allowed to function in the timings mentioned above demanded the federation.
