Goa, January 29, 2026: Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh, who is currently riding high on the massive box office success of his film Dhurandhar, has landed in legal trouble after an FIR was registered against him in Bengaluru. The complaint relates to an incident that allegedly took place during the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) held in Goa on November 28, 2025.

Known as Bollywood’s “most energetic performer,” Ranveer Singh is accused of mocking the sacred Daiva Kola tradition of coastal South Karnataka. An FIR has been registered at the High Grounds Police Station in Bengaluru following a court directive.

According to the complaint filed by advocate Prashant Mithal, Ranveer allegedly imitated the divine expressions of Panjurli and Guliga Daiva in an inappropriate manner while on stage. Actor Rishab Shetty, who rose to global fame with Kantara, was also present during the event. The complainant claims that Ranveer’s actions amounted to disrespect of a sacred tradition that holds deep religious and cultural significance.

The complaint further alleges that Ranveer referred to the revered Chavundi Daiva as a “female ghost” while reenacting an emotional scene inspired by Kantara: Chapter 1. It is also claimed that despite Rishab Shetty requesting him not to do so, Ranveer continued with the performance on the international मंच.

After the video of the incident surfaced on social media on December 2, the complainant initiated legal proceedings. Acting on court orders, Bengaluru Police registered a case against Ranveer Singh under Sections 196, 299 and 302 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which deal with hurting religious sentiments and promoting hatred.

Daiva Kola or Bhoota Kola is considered an integral part of the identity and faith of people in South Karnataka. The incident has sparked widespread debate on social media, with many calling for artists to respect religious and cultural traditions. Attention is now focused on how the actor will respond to the legal challenge ahead.
