First Cargo Special Train Sets Off from Khadki, Boosting Rail Transportation in Pune Region

The Business Development Unit, part of the Commercial and Operations Department of the Pune Railway Division, has been actively working to explore new destinations and customers. Their efforts have resulted in the dispatch of the first cargo special train from Khadki station to Sankarel-Howrah on June 21st. This initiative aims to tap into the potential of the industrial areas surrounding the Pune Railway Division and redirect goods transportation from road to rail.

The cargo special train comprises 14 VPU coaches, primarily loaded with white goods such as ACs, refrigerators, and TVs, weighing a total of 322 tonnes. With efficient operations and cost-effective rates, the railway has earned over Rs. fifteen lakhs in revenue from this venture.

Thanks to the diligent work of the Business Development Unit team and their discussions with various companies, the Pune railway division expects to load 7-8 parcel rakes per month. This strategic shift from road transport to rail transport has the potential to generate a monthly revenue of Rs 1-1.2 crore.

Under the guidance of Divisional Railway Manager Mrs. Indu Dubey, Additional Divisional Railway Manager Brijesh Kumar Singh, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Dr. Milind Hirve, and Senior Divisional Operations Manager Dr. Milind Hirve, the Business Development Unit team, led by Swapneel Neela, has successfully attracted new business opportunities.
