As Kashmir’s first snowfall of the season blanketed the scenic valley, it attracted tourists to renowned resorts like Gulmarg and Sonamarg. However, while these picturesque landscapes became even more enchanting, the snowfall disrupted major travel routes in the region.

The snowfall began on Monday and continued intermittently through the night, covering higher-altitude areas in parts of Kupwara and Bandipora districts as well. This led to temporary closures of the Srinagar-Leh National Highway and other critical roads in the upper reaches. Early Tuesday morning, crews from the Border Roads Organisation were dispatched to clear the snow, successfully reopening the Srinagar-Leh highway. However, Mughal Road, which links the Kashmir Valley with the Jammu region, and Sinthan Top, which connects Bandipora to the remote Gurez sector, remained closed due to heavy snow accumulation.

Weather forecasts predict dry conditions until November 13, with light rain or snow possible in the higher areas from November 14-15, followed by scattered snowfall on November 16. After this, the valley is expected to have generally dry weather from November 17-23, according to the Meteorological Department.

Tourists are advised to check for road conditions and weather updates before planning travel to higher-altitude areas.
