Sharing the achievement on X, the IAF said Squadron Leader Saanya’s success reflects dedication, hard work and excellence, calling it a proud moment for the force and an inspiration for future aviators.

The IAF follows a special grading system for flying instructors. Cat-C is given to trainee instructors, Cat-B to standard instructors, while Cat-A is the highest category. Officers with Cat-A qualification are trusted to train other instructors and assess advanced flying skills.

Cat-A Qualified Flying Instructors play an important role in preparing future fighter pilots. They train young aviators, monitor their performance, improve their flying techniques and prepare them for high-level air combat operations. The role demands exceptional flying skills, patience, technical knowledge and leadership qualities.

According to public service records, Squadron Leader Saanya was commissioned into the Flying Branch of the IAF on June 20, 2015, through the 42 SSC (W) FP Course. She was promoted to Flight Lieutenant in 2017 and became Squadron Leader in 2021.

Her achievement comes at a time when women officers in the Indian Air Force are making remarkable progress in fighter flying, transport aircraft operations, helicopter missions, testing roles, command positions and training assignments — areas that were once dominated by men.
