From Door-To-Door Sales To A Multi-Crore Business: Chinu Kala’s Journey From Earning Rs 20 A Day
Once a teenage door-to-door seller, Chinu Kala now leads an 8-crore jewelry empire, inspiring millions with her resilience and vision.
Chinu Kala’s story is one of grit, resilience, and transformation. Born on October 10, 1981, Chinu didn’t have an easy start. At just 15, she left home due to family issues, carrying only Rs 300 and a small bag of clothes. With no resources, she faced harsh realities on the streets, even spending two nights at a Mumbai railway station. Unwavering in her resolve, she soon found work as a door-to-door seller, earning Rs 20 a day selling knives and coaster sets. These humble beginnings would lay the foundation for her future success as an entrepreneur and jewelry mogul.
Years later, Chinu’s determination would lead her to the world of fashion and accessories. Without a formal design education, she taught herself about jewelry craftsmanship and launched her brand, Rubans Accessories, drawing inspiration from India’s traditional meenakari art.
Her first collection captivated customers, marking the start of her brand’s rise in the accessories market. Over the years, Rubans has expanded to become a trendsetting brand, recognized for its eclectic range of jewelry. Today, Rubans Accessories has grown into an 8-crore business, beloved by celebrities globally, including stars like Blake Lively, Kendall Jenner, and Beyoncé.
Chinu’s journey took a turn in 2007 when she participated in the Gladrags Mrs. India beauty pageant, finishing among the top 10 finalists. Modeling gave her recognition, but she knew it couldn’t be her lifelong career.
Her true calling emerged with Rubans, where her husband, Amit Kala, now serves as a director. Rubans Accessories stands as a symbol of Chinu’s journey from adversity to achievement, inspiring many with her story of resilience, ambition, and the courage to dream big.
