Pune: The Maharashtra Information Technology (IT) department is in talks with the center’s civil registration system (CRS) to exchange birth and death data. The move will help in real-time integration of the gathered data which will be accessible to the public on the ‘Aaple Sarkar’ portal.

There will be a link on the portal that lets citizens download birth and death certificates. Urban local bodies will be the first to benefit from the initiative.

As per information, all government departments are required by the Maharashtra Right to Public Services (RTS) Act to provide notice and services within a certain timeframe. It currently encompasses 438 services & 38 departments throughout the state. Officials say it won’t be simple because the data integration will take some time and won’t be over until March of the following year.

According to a state IT Department official, efforts are in progress to connect Aaple Sarkar data with CRS data. By 2024, it should be completed, at which point citizens will be able to download their birth and death certificates while lounging in the comfort of their own homes. The modalities needed to make the process possible are being worked on.

Hospitals register births and deaths with the local authorities. The birth and death certificates can be obtained by visiting the appropriate ward office after two to three weeks. Citizens can obtain government services, such as the issuance of certificates for residence, income, and caste non-creamy layer, through the Aaple Sarkar Portal.
