Pune-based professional Neeraj Panchal, 50, recently achieved a remarkable milestone by scaling Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak at 5,895 meters.

For Panchal, who has spent the last 18 years working with John Deere, leading Intellectual Property for APAC, the climb was more than an adventure—it was a test of resilience and self-belief.

He is a resident of Nyati Estate society in Mohamadwadi. Fitness had become part of his life 10 years ago when he completed his first half marathon in Delhi, clocking 2 hours and 15 minutes. Running soon became routine, and later, badminton too entered his life. Yet, Panchal had always carried a fear of heights. Determined to challenge himself, he began dreaming of the world’s tallest free-standing mountain—Kilimanjaro.

The climb was grueling. Battling snow, fatigue, and high-altitude sickness, Panchal began his final ascent at 11.30 pm, reaching the Uhuru Peak at 8.55 am.

“I had tears in my eyes when I unfurled the Indian national flag at the summit,” he recalled. “The strength of mind is bigger than the strength of body.”

For Panchal, who became the first in his entire family to achieve this feat, the journey was not just about conquering a mountain, but about breaking personal barriers. His family’s pride and joy are his biggest rewards.

Hakuna Matata—no worries—that’s how Panchal now defines life after the climb.
