Fuel Crisis Hits Lasalgaon Onion Market, Traders Threaten Auction Boycott From May 25
Nashik, May 21, 2026: A worsening fuel shortage in several parts of Maharashtra has started impacting onion and grain trading operations at the Lasalgaon Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC), with traders warning of a possible boycott of auction activities from May 25 if the situation does not improve.
The traders’ association at Lasalgaon Agricultural Produce Market Committee has submitted a memorandum to market committee officials, urging immediate intervention to resolve transportation disruptions caused by the diesel shortage.

According to traders, the shortage of fuel has significantly reduced the availability of cargo vehicles, making it difficult to transport onions and grains purchased during daily auctions to markets in other states and regions. Large quantities of produce are reportedly accumulating inside the market yard due to delays in dispatch, increasing operational and financial pressure on traders.
Association members stated that the transportation crisis has also disrupted fresh procurement activities, affecting overall market operations and cash flow within the agricultural trading network.
Traders have appealed to the market committee to take up the issue with the state government and ensure immediate corrective measures to restore normal transportation services.
The association further warned that if the fuel supply situation remains unresolved, traders may stop participating in the daily auction process starting Monday, May 25. Such a move could severely affect onion trading activities at one of Asia’s largest wholesale onion markets.
The ongoing shortage has already raised concerns among farmers, transporters and commission agents, with fears that continued disruptions could impact agricultural supply chains across multiple regions.
