PUNE: On Tuesday, a 37-year-old man and his family members were subjected to assault by members of the Ganesh Mandal during a procession in the Ganesh Nagar, Somatane Phata.

The incident occurred after the complainant requested the members of the Ganesh Mandal to lower the sound of their DJ system while passing through the area.

The police have taken 21 members of the Ganesh Mandal into custody following the registration of an FIR at the Talegaon Dabhade Police Station.

According to the police, the plaintiff had requested the members of the Ganesh Mandal to refrain from playing their DJ system in the area due to family’s mourning. The accused, however, proceeded to barge into the plaintiff’s house and assault him and other family members who intervened.

The accused used wooden sticks, machetes, and other weapons, resulting in injuries people. The police have arrested a total of 21 accused in connection with the incident, and an FIR has been registered under sections 307, 323, 141, 148, 149, 452, 504, and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), along with sections 4 and 25 of the Arms Act, and 135 and 37(1) of the Maharashtra Police Act.

As per the information received, the arrested accused have been produced before the court and remanded to police custody for five days. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
