Ganeshotsav immersion procession to conclude by 4 pm today
The Ganeshotsav immersion procession in Pune City began on Tuesday morning at 10:30 am from the statue at Mahatma Phule Mandai. Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar inaugurated the festivities by garlanding the first Manache Ganapati i.e. Kasba Ganapati. As per the information, the procession is expected to complete by 4 pm on Wednesday after around 26 hours.
Thousands of devotees gathered along the Visarjan procession route to bid farewell to their beloved Ganaraya. The immersion of all five Manache Ganapatis was completed by 7:30 pm at Visarjan Ghat, followed by the iconic Dagdusheth Halwai Ganapati at 9 pm.
After that, the youth who came to watch the immersion procession on Kumthekar Road and Tilak Road were seen dancing to the DJ’s beats. However, the DJ was only allowed to play until midnight. As a result, many Ganesh mandals chose to stay put after midnight and resumed playing the DJ at six in the morning, after which the Ganesh mandals set out from Lakshmi Road, Tilak Road, and Kumthekar Road.
The 26-hour procession has maintained citizens’ enthusiasm, with many still present along the route. Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar warned against using laser lights, and Joint Commissioner Ranjan Kumar Sharma confirmed close monitoring. “We’re watching all processions,” Sharma stated. “Many Mandals co-operated, avoiding laser lights in main city areas like Mahatma Phule Mandai, Kumthekar Road, Tilak Road, and Lakshmi Road,” he added. However, some circles exceeded decibel limits, prompting action.
By 11:45 pm, 223 mandals had left Alka Talkies Chowk towards Visarjan Ghat. With numerous immersions remaining, the procession is expected to conclude by 4 pm on Wednesday. Police are verifying laser light usage in other city areas. The procession’s slow pace, similar to last year’s, has not deterred citizens’ enthusiasm. The cooperation between citizens, Ganesh Mandals, and law enforcement agencies has ensured a smooth and peaceful procession.
Key locations involved in the procession include Mahatma Phule Mandai, Kumthekar Road, Tilak Road, Lakshmi Road, Alka Talkies Chowk, and Visarjan Ghat.
