Pune Railway Station Tops List for Alarm Chain Pulling Incidents

Central Railway takes stern action against person pulling Alarm Chain without a valid reason in Rajdhani Express at Nashik road station
The Pune railway station has recorded the highest number of alarm chain-pulling incidents within the Pune division of Central Railway this year. According to recent data from the Railway Protection Force (RPF), between January and August, Pune railway station reported around 400 cases of alarm chain pulling.
Following closely behind are Ahmednagar and Daund railway stations, with 172 and 134 cases, respectively. This trend is consistent with last year’s data, which saw Pune record approximately 570 cases.
Priyanka Sharma, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner of the Pune division, attributed the majority of these incidents to passengers arriving late or waiting for co-passengers. “We have two categories: one focuses on addressing unpunctuality-related concerns, and the other on complaints or assistance registered through the Rail Madad app,” Sharma explained.
Stone-pelting on train windows is another significant concern, categorized as ‘punctuality tasks’. Sharma emphasized that pulling the alarm chain without reasonable cause is a punishable offense under Section 141 of the Railways Act, 1989. Offenders may face imprisonment for up to one year, a fine of Rs 1,000, or both.
Notably, Ahmednagar and Daund were incorporated into the Pune division in April this year, previously being part of the Solapur division. Last year, Chinchwad and Loni stations recorded around 170 and 160 cases, respectively.
The RPF’s primary objective is to prevent train delays. Sharma noted that most cases reported through the Rail Madad app relate to luggage left behind. Railway officials appeal to passengers to refrain from unnecessary alarm chain pulling, which causes delays and disrupts train operations. In a bid to curb these incidents, the RPF has increased surveillance and awareness campaigns.
