Ganeshotsav In Pune: PMC’s decision to ban loud noise and laser lights sparks outrage among mandals
The Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) decision to ban loud noise and laser lights during Ganeshotsav has sparked outrage among Ganesh Mandals, who claim it will dampen the festive spirit.
“We are shocked and disappointed by the PMC’s decision,” said a Ganesh Mandal representative. “Large size speakers and laser lights are an integral part of our celebrations. This ban will take away the joy and excitement of the festival, ” he added. However, the PMC has justified the ban, citing concerns over noise pollution and its harmful effects on citizens’ health.
“We have received complaints about the high decibel levels during Ganeshotsav, and we cannot ignore the health risks associated with it,” said Commissioner Dr Rajendra Bhosale.
The PMC has offered alternative decorations and assured that a meeting will be held with relevant departments to ensure compliance with the ban and address other concerns raised during the meeting.
Ganesh Mandals, however, are unwilling to compromise on their traditions. “We will not celebrate the festival without it,” said another representative. “We urge the PMC to reconsider their decision.”
The standoff between the PMC and Ganesh Mandals has cast a shadow over the upcoming celebrations, leaving devotees and revelers worried about the fate of the festival.
