A 12-year-old boy suffered injuries after being attacked by a pet German Shepherd in Ghatkopar (East) on Tuesday afternoon.
The victim, Ayush Kirte, went to play with friends near a BMC school in Ramabai Ambedkar Nagar when the dog bit him on his hand and waist. His father, Amol Kirte, who runs a paan shop, lodged a complaint with the Pant Nagar police.
In the FIR, Kirte stated that the dog’s owner, Abdul Kareem Pradhan, had failed to take safety measures such as using a leash or muzzle. The dog was reportedly roaming freely on the road when the incident occurred.
Ayush was taken to a hospital, where he was given an injection for his injuries. There is still swelling on his hand. When the father confronted Pradhan about the lack of precautions, Pradhan allegedly dismissed the concerns, saying he had a license for the dog.
Kirte expressed concerns about the dog being a danger to others, particularly as the area is close to a school. He plans to file an application with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to relocate the dog. “This should not happen to any other child. Strict action should be taken,” he said.
Pant Nagar police have booked Pradhan under sections of the IPC for endangering life and personal safety. Investigations are ongoing. Residents of the area have called for stricter enforcement of pet safety rules, especially in public spaces near schools.
