Pimpri: In a significant development, the long-pending arrears from the Seventh Pay Commission for employees of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) are set to be released. Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh has approved the release of an advance payment of ₹56.10 crore to cover the first installment of these arrears as an exceptional measure for the financial year 2024-25. This decision follows consistent efforts by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Mahesh Landge of bhosari Constituency.

PMPML was established by merging the transport operations of the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporations. The operational deficit is shared between the two bodies, with Pune Municipal Corporation contributing 60% and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation contributing 40%. In a meeting that included the Deputy Chief Minister, public representatives, PMPML management, and labor union officials, it was decided that the arrears owed to PMPML employees under the Seventh Pay Commission would be paid in four installments. The total arrears for the period from April 1, 2017, to November 30, 2022, amount to ₹561 crore.

Pimpri-Chinchwad’s 40% share of this amount totals ₹224.40 crore. As part of the first installment, Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh has sanctioned an advance of ₹56.10 crore to PMPML. This decision has created an atmosphere of relief and optimism among the employees.

Reacting to the news, Landge said, “PMPML employees have been demanding the payment of their Seventh Pay Commission arrears, and efforts have been made at various levels to resolve this issue. I am pleased to announce that after sustained follow-up, Commissioner Shekhar Singh has approved ₹56 crore for the first installment. Employees will soon receive the arrears they have been waiting for.”
