Good News! Mumbai-Bengaluru Superfast Train Likely By June; Vande Bharat Sleeper Upgrade Planned
Passengers travelling between Mumbai, Pune and Bengaluru may soon get a faster rail option as Indian Railways plans to launch a new biweekly superfast train on the busy corridor, with a future Vande Bharat Sleeper upgrade also under consideration.
A major railway connectivity boost may soon become a reality for passengers travelling between Mumbai and Bengaluru.
Union Minister Pralhad Joshi recently announced that a long-awaited superfast train service connecting the two metro cities is expected to begin operations by the end of June.
The announcement came after discussions with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw regarding railway infrastructure and connectivity demands linked to Karnataka and Maharashtra.
According to reports, the new train will run through key Maharashtra and Karnataka stations including Pune, Satara, Karad, Sangli, Miraj, Belagavi, Hubballi-Dharwad and Davanagere before reaching Bengaluru.
The proposed service is expected to provide relief to passengers who currently depend on long-duration train journeys or expensive air travel between the two cities.
Reports suggest the train may initially operate as a biweekly superfast service between Mumbai’s Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) and Bengaluru.
As per the route details circulating online, the train is expected to pass through Thane, Kalyan, Karjat, Lonavala, Pune, Lonand, Satara, Karad, Sangli, Miraj, Belagavi, Dharwad, Hubballi and Davanagere.
The train is likely to use LHB coaches and may offer modern passenger facilities including bio-toilets, comfortable seating and improved onboard amenities.
Several reports have also claimed that the train could later be upgraded into a Vande Bharat Sleeper service as part of Indian Railways’ ongoing modernisation programme.
If approved, the upgrade would bring enhanced overnight travel comfort and faster journey times on the Mumbai-Bengaluru corridor.
According to information shared in reports, the Vande Bharat Sleeper proposal received a positive response during discussions with the Railway Ministry.
The possible sleeper Vande Bharat service is expected to benefit passengers travelling between Maharashtra and Karnataka for business, education and tourism.
Images and route details circulating online also suggest that the service may significantly reduce travel inconvenience for passengers travelling from Pune and western Maharashtra towards Bengaluru and central Karnataka.
Meanwhile, reports indicate that the inaugural special run of the superfast train could take place in May before regular operations begin later.
Some reports have also suggested that the train may complete the Mumbai-Bengaluru journey in nearly 14 hours, though official timings and ticket fares are yet to be formally announced by Indian Railways.
The development has generated strong interest among rail passengers, especially after discussions around expanding Vande Bharat Sleeper services across major long-distance routes in India.
However, railway authorities are yet to release the final official timetable, operational schedule and fare structure for the proposed service.
Disclaimer: Railway schedules, routes and launch timelines may change based on official approvals and operational requirements. Passengers are advised to wait for formal confirmation from Indian Railways before planning travel.
