Good News!!! Two New Stations Approved On Pune Metro’s Swargate–Katraj Corridor
Pune, September 3, 2025 – Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has announced that two new metro stations will be added to the extended route of Phase-2 of the Pune Metro project on the Swargate–Katraj corridor. The proposal, approved in the state cabinet meeting, includes the construction of stations at Balajinagar and Bibvewadi, with in-principle clearance for additional costs.
According to Pawar, the decision will make metro travel more convenient for residents in the southern parts of Pune, while also easing traffic congestion.
He emphasized that the expansion of Phase-2 will enhance the efficiency of Pune Metro and provide citizens with faster, modern, and eco-friendly public transport.
The project entails an additional expenditure of ₹683.11 crore, which will be financed through contributions from different sources: ₹227.42 crore from Pune Municipal Corporation, ₹341.13 crore through a bilateral loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB), ₹45.75 crore as secondary loan from the state government for state taxes, and ₹68.81 crore as additional interest-free secondary loan from the state government.
Officials stated that this expansion will significantly strengthen the city’s metro network, bringing sustainable urban mobility benefits to a larger population.
