Water Crisis In Pune: 250 Housing Societies Voice Grievances In High Court-Mandated Meeting At PMC
Pune, September 3, 2025 – A meeting of the Water Committee, constituted under the directions of the Bombay High Court in PIL 126/2023, was held at the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to address water scarcity issues faced by housing societies in Lohegaon, Wagholi, Manjari Budruk, Hadapsar, Mundhwa Keshavnagar, Kharadi, and nearby regions.
The meeting, chaired by the Additional Commissioner of PMC, was attended by senior water supply officials and representatives from nearly 250 housing societies. Residents expressed serious concerns over acute water shortages, even during the monsoon season when rainfall has been above satisfactory.
Societies from Keshavnagar and Mundhwa highlighted the heavy financial burden of purchasing water through private tankers. Residents of Godrej-developed Infinity and Rejuve societies alleged harassment by the builder, who has failed to provide water despite submitting an affidavit to PMC stating it would supply water until PMC connections are established. Builders have reportedly stopped tanker supply during festivals, forcing societies to approach the police, though complaints are often not entertained.
Adv. Satya Muley, representing residents’ associations, demanded that PMC take strict action against defaulting builders and issue advisory letters enabling societies to pursue legal remedies. Large complexes such as Majestic Rhythm in Handewadi, with nearly 5,000 units, were cited as still lacking drinking water supply.
Societies from Wagholi and Kharadi also raised similar grievances. PMC official Nandkishore Jagtap noted that an overhead tank nearing completion would bring relief to Kharadi. Muley urged residents to regularly attend such meetings to ensure accountability and progress on water-related issues.
