Google has recently made significant job cuts in its core team, impacting nearly 200 employees, and is planning to move some of these roles to India and Mexico as a part of its efforts to reduce costs and restructure the company.

The changes affected at least 50 engineering positions at the company’s California headquarters. These moves are part of Google’s strategy to focus on growth in regions where the workforce is expanding rapidly, aiming to work more closely with local partners and developer communities.

Asim Husain, Vice President of Google Developer Ecosystem, communicated these layoffs in an email, noting that this was the largest cut his team had experienced. Despite the reductions, Google aims to maintain its global presence and streamline operations to enhance efficiency and innovation within the company.

According to a Google spokesperson, the employees who lost their jobs will have the opportunity to apply for other available positions within the company. This restructuring is intended to reduce bureaucracy and prioritize work on Google’s most critical projects and innovations.

These changes are a continuation of workforce adjustments that began in early 2023 by Google’s parent company, Alphabet, as it navigates through various economic challenges and shifts in the tech industry landscape.
