Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced in the Legislative Assembly session that the penalty imposed on property tax will be relaxed in Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation jurisdiction. Hadapsar constituency MLA Chetan Tupe raised an objection to the decision that has been made only for Pimpri Chinchwad.

Explaining his point, MLA Chetan Tupe said, “This decision of waiving off penalty on property tax must be applied not just to PCMC but also to other municipal corporations. It is necessary to think positively while levying taxes from the newly added villages in the Municipal Corporation. Also, the inflated property tax charged to the properties in the newly merged villages must be waived off. In fact, the villages are taxed three times higher property tax more than when they were with the gram panchayat. If PCMC gets relaxation, then the taxes should also be waived off from Pune Municipal Corporation villages and other Municipal Corporations too.”

Leader of the opposition Ajit Pawar also demanded that this decision to waive tax should be implemented for all Municipal Corporations in the state. MLA Chetan Tupe and MLA Sunil Tingre  insisted that the government should apply the same decision to all cities without discrimination.

MLA Tupe further said, “The residents of Undri are protesting as the taxes are incorrectly levied on them. And this waiver should also be made to other Municipal Corporations.”
