Gudi Padwa 2024: Auspicious time and method of worship

Gudi Padwa, a significant festival celebrated primarily in Maharashtra, marks the Hindu New Year and is observed with great fervour and tradition. 

According to the Hindu calendar, Gudi Padwa falls on Chaitra Shuddha Pratipada, the first day of the bright fortnight of the Chaitra month.

In 2024, Gudi Padwa will be celebrated on April 9 (Tuesday) across India. This auspicious day is characterized by vibrant festivities, including processions with traditional music, colorful rangolis, and the symbolic raising of Gudhis outside homes.

The auspicious time for Puja on Gudi Padwa 2024 falls between 6:02 AM to 10:17 AM on April 9th (Tuesday). During this time, devotees can worship the Gudhi and erect it as a symbol of prosperity and auspicious beginnings.

On Gudi Padwa, Gudhis are worshipped and erected in households, symbolizing the victory of good over evil and welcoming the Marathi New Year with joy and optimism. Rangolis adorn the area around the Gudhi, while offerings of garlands and sugar signify blessings for prosperity and sweetness in life.

Some traditions that are followed on this day: 

On the day of Gudi Padva, people wake up early in the morning and take a bath.

Wear clean clothes worship God and pray.

The place where the Gudhi is to be erected should be cleaned. 

Clean the house.

A rangoli should be drawn at the place where the Gudi is erected, the house should be decorated with garlands of flowers.

A toran made of mango leaves or Ashoka leaves and flowers should be built over the main door of the house.

Bamboo or sticks should be cleaned for erecting Gudi.

Apply turmeric-kunku on it. Now draw a swastika on an urn with the help of turmeric and turmeric.

Now wrap a silk cloth over it. A garland of flowers and lumps of sugar should be placed on it and a neem leaf should be wrapped around it.

After that, Gudi should be worshiped by carrying turmeric-kunku, and akshata. Agarbatti, incense should be applied. After that, crack the coconut.

Puranpoli should be offered to the Gudi.

It is a tradition to eat neem with jaggery on this day for better health

According to religious beliefs, Gudi Padwa holds special significance as it is believed that Lord Brahma created the universe on this day. Thus, the festival of Gudi Padwa carries deep spiritual meaning and serves as a time for reflection, renewal, and celebration of new beginnings.
